New Hyundai 2020 Hyundai Sonata vs 2020 Honda Accord – Metro Detroit MI near Detroit Southfield MI
2020 Hyundai Sonata vs 2020 Honda Accord – Metro Detroit MI
The Honda Accord has been among the most popular vehicles in the U.S. for so long that every other midsize sedan ever rolled out is measured against it. The Hyundai Sonata, however, often goes unsung for the role it has played in shaping this segment. While the 2020 Honda Accord remains unchanged for this model year, the 2020 Hyundai Sonata arrives at Glassman Hyundai with a complete redesign. Hyundai has expanded the standard and optional tech as well as made the exterior and interior much sleeker, so let’s take a closer look in our 2020 Hyundai Sonata vs 2020 Honda Accord comparison.
Exterior – 2020 Hyundai Sonata
While Hyundai and Honda each have their own style and thus the Sonata and Accord have aesthetic difference, the two vehicles are fundamentally similar. The Sonata has a 111.8-inch wheelbase and measures 192.9 inches long. The Accord has a 111.4-inch wheelbase and measures 192.2 inches long. The two vehicles are in an inch of each other when it comes to height, width and ground clearance.
Interior – 2020 Hyundai Sonata near Metro Detroit MI
Both vehicles are midsize sedans with seating for five. The Sonata is a bit roomier thanks to 106.1 cubic feet of passenger volume compared to 105.6. The Sonata provides more headroom and considerably more legroom for the driver and front passenger at 40.0 and 46.1 inches, respectively, compared to 39.5 and 42.3 inches. In the rear, the Accord has more legroom but the Sonata more headroom. In terms of trunk space, both vehicles are similar and provide more than 16 cubic feet.
Mechanical – Sonata specs near Metro Detroit
The 2020 Hyundai Sonata is a front-wheel-drive sedan. All models feature an eight-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic, but there are two different engines. The base SEL features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder under the hood whereas the SEL Plus and Limited boast a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder. The 2020 Honda Accord is similar in that it is front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive is not offered as an option. Honda also offers two engines, but availability is a bit different. A turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a CVT is standard across the lineup except on the Touring. The Touring has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a 10-speed automatic. That powertrain is an option on the Sport and EX-L, and the Sport lets you choose a six-speed manual over the 10-speed auto.
Technology – Hyundai Sonata specs near Metro Detroit MI
Both vehicles fare well in our 2020 Hyundai Sonata vs 2020 Honda Accord comparison, and this is thanks in large part due to driver safety and assistance groups that are included with the base model at no additional charge. The Sonata package includes forward collision detection, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping and centering assist and adaptive cruise control. Hyundai also provides an 8-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera and Android and Apple smartphone integration. Honda offers a similar package except that you have to step up all the way to the Sport in order to get the 8-inch touchscreen and smartphone integration included as standard equipment.
