2020 Hyundai Sonata vs 2019 Hyundai Sonata
Anyone in the market for a midsize sedan will want to consider the Hyundai Sonata. The Sonata is not only among the most popular sedans on American roads, it has had a great influence on the segment as a whole over the years. The 2020 Hyundai Sonata has arrived at Glassman Hyundai, your local Hyundai dealership serving Detroit Southfield Waterford, and this model year brings with it a complete redesign, which means that it is significantly different than the 2019 Hyundai Sonata. Our 2020 Hyundai Sonata vs 2019 Hyundai Sonata comparison is a great way to learn about all these changes inside and out.
Exterior – 2020 Hyundai Sonata
The seventh-gen Sonata is a much different car on the outside, and that begins with its length. Hyundai has increased the length by about 2 inches, a design choice that allows for a longer, more pronounced hood. The vehicle is also about an inch closer to the ground, and the design team has widened the Sonata by about an inch as well. The goal here was to make the Sonata a sportier sedan, an effort that is completed with a sleeker and more aggressive grille design. You have a nice selection of colors from which to choose, including basics like Phantom Black and Quartz White but also eye-popping hues like Glowing Yellow. Wheel sizes range from 16 to 18 inches, and there are multiple wheel designs available and more so as you move up the trim levels. Drivers who want even more sport appeal can opt for a package that includes an even fancier front grille and front bumper.
Interior – 2020 Hyundai Sonata in Southfield MI
The standard equipment includes an infotainment system with an 8.0-inch HD color touchscreen, Bluetooth support and Android and Apple device support. The base SE and similarly equipped Eco also get an audio system with six speakers. The SEL trim boasts a bit more luxury and adds heated front seating, power adjustments for the driver and a steering wheel decorated in leather. The Sport adds sportier seating up front. The Limited upgrades all upholstery to leather and adds ventilation to the front seating. It also adds a sunroof and memory settings for the driver seating. The touchscreen now has a higher mounting position so that driver can better see it without losing focus on the road, and a new option lets you upgrade to a 10.25-inch display with built-in navigation.
Mechanical – Sonata specs in Southfield
The powertrain selection has changed for the new generation. The base engine for the 2019 model is a 2.4L four-cylinder paired to a six-speed auto, and it makes 185 hp and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. For the 2020 model, this base powertrain has been replaced with a 2.4L four-cylinder that offers improved performance at 191 hp and 181 lb.-ft., and it is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Consumers will also have the option of a 1.6L turbo. This engine was available for the 2020 model year but made 178 hp and 195 lb.-ft. The refined version for the 2020 model year makes 180 hp and 195 lb.-ft. Note that as of this writing, Hyundai had not confirmed if the 2.0L turbo returns or is being replaced. This is the performance option for 2019 that is rated for 245 hp and 260 lb.-ft.

Opting for the SEL adds Blue Link connectivity as well as lane keeping assist. Hyundai has also added more options, such as a 10.25-inch display and a 360-degree camera.
